Shamila N. Chaudhary joined the Policy Planning Staff in February 2009 and is responsible for South and Central Asia. She has worked on economic policy, development, disaster response, and assistance issues for the State Department since 2004, focusing on Indonesia and Pakistan. Previous to her State Department work, Shamila worked as a Research Analyst with the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Office of Democracy and Governance. She was a 1999 David L. Boren National Security Education Program (NSEP) Fellow and studied Urdu in Lahore, Pakistan as part of her fellowship. Her recent writings include “Foreign Feminists: The Roles of Feminists and the Women's Movement in Pakistan” in the edited volume New Perspectives on Pakistan: Visions for the Future,” published by Oxford University Press. Shamila earned a M.A. in International Affairs from the American University’s School of International Service and a B.A. in English Literature and Women’s Studies from the University of Toledo.
