The U.S. National Commission for UNESCO is pleased to announce the call for applications for the UNESCO-L’OREAL Co-Sponsored Fellowship for Young Women in Life Sciences International Fellowship program.

International Fellowship Program
UNESCO-L’Oreal Co-sponsored Fellowships for Young Women in Life Sciences honor 15 young women researchers at the doctoral or postdoctoral level, whose promising projects have been accepted by a reputable institution outside their country of origin. Since the program began in 1998 over 165 women from 81 countries have benefitted from this program.

These fellowships, worth up to $40,000 for a period of up to two-years, are awarded to three applicants from each of the following five regions respectively: Africa, Arab States, Asia/Pacific, Europe/North America, Latin America/Caribbean.

Eligibility

  • Candidates must be no more than 35 years old (born on or before 1/1/77)
  • Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or be currently pursuing a Ph.D.
  • Proficiency in reading and writing the language of instruction in the proposed country of study
  • Cannot be in receipt of another fellowship/grant for the project covered by this fellowship

Note: There is a discrepancy between the instructions on UNESCO’s website and the application form re: the number of recommendation letters required – we suggest U.S. candidates supply three letters.

American citizens who wish to apply for the 2012 UNESCO-L’OREAL Co-sponsored Fellowship for Young Women in Life Sciences are asked to submit their application by courier (i.e. Federal Express, UPS, DHL) to:

Applications for the 2012 UNESCO-L’OREAL Co-sponsored Fellowship for Young Women in Life Sciences must be received by the U.S. National Commission by Wednesday 6/15/11.

American Fellowship Program
In addition to their International Fellowship program offered in cooperation with UNESCO, L’OREAL-USA also offers an American fellowship program. This one-year program is offered to women in postdoctoral programs who are pursing research in the Life Sciences, Physical and Materials Sciences, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
