American Society for Microbiology


The ASM is the world's largest scientific society of individuals interested in the microbiological sciences. Founded in 1899, the Society's mission is to advance microbiological sciences through the pursuit of scientific knowledge and dissemination of the results of fundamental and applied research.

The ASM's annual General Meeting Is multi-disciplinary, with more than 3,500 papers presented and over 10,000 scientific attendees. The Interscience Conference of Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy (ICAAC)—ASM's second annual meeting—is the preeminent international conference on infectious diseases. ASM publishes eleven peer-reviewed journals that are among the world's most respected professional periodicals.

The ASM also works to foster access to microbiological knowledge worldwide by providing high-quality education and training programs to microbiologists and institutions at all levels, and by promoting the professional development of international microbiologists through scholarly exchange.
