The American Chemical Society (ACS) is 159,000 members strong, and is the world's largest scientific society dedicated to a single science. The Society was founded in 1876 and received a federal charter in 1937. Its mission is to encourage in the broadest and most liberal manner the advancement of the chemical enterprise and its practitioners. Toward that end, ACS advances scholarly knowledge, provides professional services and support, communicates with varied audiences, and it actively involved in the science, education, and public policy arenas.
