College and Beyond

Your child has become a young adult, ready for college life and beyond.  Foreign Service children grow up on the move.  They are familiar with travel through international airports, meeting people from different cultures and countries, communicating with friends who live in foreign lands as well as the U.S., and finding a personal identity that reflects their international lifestyle.

Reaching the age of 18 makes a child a legal adult in most US localities. This is not necessarily the case in overseas environments where age for acquiring adult status under another country's jurisdiction may be quite different.  No matter in which country a Foreign Service family lives, children on the official orders of a U.S. Foreign Service Officer retain the status of eligible family member until they turn 21.

Helping young adults reach their goals paves the way for future success in life.  The Family Liaison Office Education and Youth Officer can help identify pathways for success and the resources available.  Please view the web pages to the left (also below) and click to find the information you need.  If you need further assistance, contact FLO's Education and Youth Officer.
