The International School of Uganda (ISU) is a non-profit, co-educational day school, established in 1967 offering an international education program for students 21/2 to 19 years old. The school is authorized to offer all three International Baccalaureate programs and is also accredited by the Council of International Schools and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
Organization: The school is governed by a Board of Trustees comprised of eight elected members and one member appointed by the U.S. Ambassador. Membership in the association is automatically conferred on parents and guardians of ISU students and on all full-time ISU teachers.
Curriculum: The curriculum is based on the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, Diploma (16-19 year-old students), Middle Years (11-16 year-old students) and Primary Years (3-11 year old students). ISU is one of 151 schools worldwide which is authorized to offer all three IB programmes. The students are well prepared at ISU for entry into American, British or other international schools or universities. More than 3,000 schools world-wide use the International Baccalaureate Programs which offer transportability for students of international families. The High School program prepares students for successful entry into universities and colleges.
Faculty: ISU has 56 full-time experienced teachers. Almost half of the teachers hold Masters or other postgraduate degrees. There are eight IB Diploma examiners, one deputy chief examiner, three IB Middle Years moderators, one IB Diploma senior moderator, four IB Diploma workshop leaders, and two IB Primary Years workshop leaders on the teaching staff.
Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2010-11 school year enrollment stood at 516 students. Our students represent over 60 different nations with some families that move every two to four years creating a culturally dynamic and synergistic student body with many languages and customs.
Facilities: The lush thirty-three acre ISU campus is a garden for many indigenous plants and bird-life. The purpose-built campus is on the outskirts of the capital city of Kampala in a rural setting and about 5 kilometers from Lake Victoria. It includes four fully equipped science laboratories, three computer laboratories with access to the Internet and wireless connectivity campus-wide, a library of 20,000 volumes, 3 sports fields, sports hall, track, 2 swimming pools, 4 tennis courts and separate facilities for Early Childhood education.
Finances: Tuition rates are as follows - Playgroup-EC2: USD 3,590; Kinder: $12,200; grades 1-5: $13,400; grades 6-9: $15,600; grade 10: $16,100; and grades 11-12: $19,300. New students in Grades 1-12 pay a one time capital levy fee of $6,000 and a registration fee of $200.
